Biography: Susan's Mother always said she was born with a pencil in her hand. And lucky for her, she never put it down, except to raise her family in Klamath Falls where she has lived for 37 years.

While a senior in high school in Elko, Nevada, Susan took a correspondence course in drawing from the famous Art Instruction School in Illinois, and also learned to use pastels and charcoal, winning various prizes in the fairs and school shows.

Then after 30 plus years of putting her artistic talent on hold, her brother Sam told her before he passed away that "if you don't use it, you'll lose it." So Susan started taking classes. She started an oil painting class from wildlife artist Barbara Lund, then went on to George McMahan whose structure in painting and life-long experience in all mediums made him a winning instructor - then and even now.

When Susan joined Gallery 803, she started watercolor with Emma Achleithner. Then moving on to Clearwater Gallery and watercolor with Emma, she began taking classes with Laura Stewart after Emma moved to Portland.

Presently Susan teaches in oils at Clearwater Gallery, as well as in pastels, pencil, colored pencils, watercolor, and drawing - whatever a student wants to venture into. Susan never stops learning, and is excited to pass on what she has learned to others.

Susan is co-owner of Clearwater Gallery, along with Dorothy Hale, Dori Pace, Judy Smith, and Donna Woolery. Susan has done a variety of commission works for customers from Klamath Falls, Oregon to Florida. "That is what I love to do best," says Susan, "commission paintings of someone or something special in people's lives."

Awards and shows: Susan has won ribbons at the Oregon State Fair, and at the Klamath Falls Fair (with winnings of Best of Show, Best of Division, and numerous First, Second, and Third places). Her artwork has also been exhibited in Washington, D.C. at the American Farm Bureau; and in Klamath Falls, OR at Gallery 803, Clearwater Gallery, Klamath Falls Airport, Antonio's Cucina Italiana, South Valley Bank, Washington Mutual Bank, Packing Clinic, Klamath Bull Sale, National Working Dog Trials, and at George McMahan's Pioneer Gallery.

Artwork on display:Susan currently has paintings in Clearwater Gallery. Future exhibitions will be at Antonio's Cucina Italiana, Klamath Falls Airport, and Washington Mutual Bank. During Fair time, she will have new paintings on display.
