Biography: Bev grew up in the Tulelake Basin. "It allowed me to see first hand the migratory birds and animals in a beautiful high desert landscape," says Bev. After college, she lived in Medford and Seattle, but relocated to Klamath Falls where she married her husband Larry Ott.
Bev is a watercolorist and has been painting for 20 years, studying under various instructors, with her favorite being the acclaimed watercolorist, author and international teacher Judy Morris with the American Watercolor Society. In 2005, Bev's husband encouraged her to become a professional artist.
Bev now exhibits and galleries in 14 locations in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, and Arizona. Locally, she galleries at Frames and Things gallery and Two Rivers Village Arts gallery, and is a member of the Klamath Art Association in Klamath County. As a watercolorist, she displays vivid colors in her paintings of dramatic images, often on a black background.
"The joy of watercolors moves me to paint many subjects - including birds, flowers, animals, cowgirls, landscapes, oriental, floral paintings, and American Indians. The more you paint, the more creativity comes from within. The area in which I live is filled with wonderful bright light to paint by, and with so many subjects of nature to paint."
Bev is also an art instructor for children and adults. She writes: "teaching is very rewarding for me in that it allows you to pass on your skills to people who enjoy painting. It also allows the painter to emerge and express themselves." She tells her students to "paint what you know best", and the painting becomes easier.
"Learning to paint with watercolors is a life-long journey. There are so many watercolor techniques, and to become a master watercolorist takes many years of training. The joy of watercolors for me is that it is always entertaining and challenging yourself to a higher level, and that's what it is all about."
Bev co-painted her POP! pelican with artist Daniel Rey whose daughter named the pelican "Rainbow Flight." Their pelican depicts a rainbow, done in acrylic with iridescent highlights. Bev writes: "The pelican is a fantastic bird, gliding 2 inches above the water and riding the thermals high in the sky; in flight, you can see the gracefulness of this powerful bird. We are very lucky to see the pelicans up close in our environment. Bev would like to thank Rogue Federal Credit Union "for allowing us to be painters for Pelicans on Parade." It was "bliss" to paint "Rainbow Flight."
New POP! pelicans painted in 2006: Bev has painted two more POP! pelicans in 2006, which include "Midnight at the Oasis" and "Mustang Moons and Tatanka Vision." The first was "Midnight at the Oasis" --- a design inspired by a 4-day float trip this summer with six of her girlfriends down the lower Rogue Wild and Scenic River. Bev writes: "This river float was a true inspiration to paint this pelican. On the float, we saw a lot of wildflowers, river plants and foliage. Also, in my painting are large river rocks, sand beaches, and trees. From the base is also a water lily pond depicting the yellow pond lily which is a native lily on Klamath Lake. At the middle sections of the pelican are an emergence of my favorite flowers, with the sunflower at the top depicting the sun in midnight. I envisioned the pelican flying at midnight through a cornucopia of flowers, and since we are in a desert setting in the Klamath Basin, I called it "Midnight at the Oasis" after one of my favorite songs in the 60's. I want to personally thank Dr. Raul Mirande for sponsoring me as an artist to paint this "Pelican on Parade." Dr. Mirande appreciates the arts and has an original painting in his office of "Bird of Paradise Dance" that I painted for him. Also, a personal thank you to all the volunteers associated with the Migration Bird project, especially Ron and Kathy Larson." Bev Fairclo-Ott, Aspen Gold Studio.

Biography: Daniel was born in 1965 in Laguna Beach, California, and raised in Sacramento. "I have always been artistically inclined," says Daniel. "I was an avid young bird watcher, and some of my best times were spent in the wild areas along the Sacramento River, drawing and sketching wildlife."
When eleven years old, Daniel was introduced to sculpture and worked for a year with a woodcarver in the German tradition. In later school, he favored the more plastic clay sculpture, concentrating on the figure and anatomy studies. Although lacking the funds for a formal art education, Daniel tried to follow the "Royal Academy path" - with years of practice at sculpture, followed by years of drawing while studying the technical aspects of archival painting.
At age 22, Daniel began painting, and left Sacramento for Los Angeles where he found work at a gallery, in addition to invaluable community with other artists. After three years, he took the opportunity to move to Dunellen, New Jersey, just a short train ride from Manhattan. From there, Daniel moved to Atlanta, Seattle, and then Portland.
"During this time," says Daniel "I accumulated a large body of finished work and continued to paint, in spite of frequent dire financial straits. I have always built my own strong stretchers for linen, and many from those years are built of hardwoods scavenged from abandoned, roadside furniture."
In Portland, Daniel met his current wife Tricia, and they moved together to Klamath Falls eight years ago for the chance to buy a fine, affordable, old house. They have two daughters now, one of whom 6-year-old Brinhanala Rey named the POP! pelican "Rainbow Flight."
A couple of years ago, they decided to remedy the lack of art supplies in town by opening their own store "Artizen" on Main Street in Klamath Falls. This lead to "many wonderful opportunities," says Daniel, that included friendships with local artists "whose existence I might have never otherwise discovered." Daniel also began teaching - both at his shop and for Klamath Community College - which allowed him to learn quite a bit himself, as well as to pass on to others starting out - what he had learned over the past 25 years.
Recently Daniel and his wife purchased the Arcade Hotel "which at the moment is a wonderful working studio for myself, and hopefully in the near future may house our store, art studios, classrooms, and perhaps other related businesses."
