The students in Justin Coulter's Klamath Union High School art class were sculpting birds in clay as a first step to create a spiral of more than 20 birds around their POP! pelican. The students plan to showcase their completed pelican on May 13 during the "International Migratory Bird Day" Celebration in Veterans Park - a fun-filled, family day that focuses on birds in the Klamath Basin.

Klamath Union High School art student Karalisa Fritch displays the Northern Flicker that she and Tyson Crofoot hand-sculpted for the "Pelican Swirl" POP! pelican.  Many other bird species were additionally crafted for the "swirl."  This special pelican project was sponsored by the Klamath Basin Ecosystem Restoration Office, through an Outreach and Education grant focusing on migratory birds in the Klamath Basin.

A live Barn Owl was showcased at this year's special "Wildlife Images" exhibit, along with other injured birds.  The Wildlife Images nonprofit has a mission of rehabilitation, education, and conservation of North American wildlife, and is very active in educational outreach at events.  Their Rehabilitation and Education Center is open for visitation in Grants Pass.  See wildlifeimages.org or phone: (541) 476-0222.
